Formed by John Baxter (Alcotomic) and Paul Inglis (the Agents), Prettymess precariously came to life in 2003 amidst a ‘deal gone wrong’ with a multinational management company – a shaky start, best described as a ‘pretty messy’ situation that only served to consolidate the band’s immutable determination to succeed. By the time former ties were severed, like-minded musicians Ryan Temby (Precursor) and Paul Cengia (Cellophane) were called to join the fray. A new batch of songs emerged, and the aptly named Prettymess was born.
Greyscale Broadcast is the much anticipated long player from Prettymess. It was released through Shock Records in April, hot on the heels of the band's debut EP Surface Glow that entered the AIR charts at #20 in May 2004 and saw single Rescue Me pick up rotation on Melbourne's Nova100, MMM and Triple J, as did its video on Channel V, and Rage.
Mixed by tone-master extraordinaire Shane O'Mara (Tim Rogers, the Casanovas & the Icecream Hands), Greyscale Broadcast is the result of months of crafting and refining tunes that have developed over 3 years. Featuring eleven sparkling melancholic songs about life, loss and survival as a musician in Melbourne through the eyes of talented songwriter John Baxter, it highlights the lush harmonies and shimmering guitars that have become a trademark of the band.
Prettymess are now regulars on the Australian live circuit, touring extensively with acts such as Thirsty Merc, Killing Heidi, Switchfoot (USA), The Church, Motorace, Dave McCormack and Betchadupa. The band is currently in pre-production for their second album due out sometime in 2007.

John Baxter (Johnny/Fives)- lead vocal and guitar

Restless and dogmatic, over-caffinated (courtesy of Atomica) and under-whelmed (courtesy of a fickle music industry). He's often seen footing it around Melbourne's inner
burbs with Crumpler on back, anchored to an alkaline powered sound emitting device. Currently on the spin: Coldplay - X&Y, Kathleen Edwards - Back To Me, Mercury Rev - The Secret Migration, Zero 7 - When It Falls.
Reading: John Gray's Straw Dogs and William S. Burroughs Junky.

Paul Inglis (Pauly/Ingzey)– bass and vocals
Rarely seen too far from a bicycle, (sometimes even in lycra) this ex Adelaide bloke loves the footy and stargazing (its true!). Latest additions to the iPod: Snow Patrol - Eyes Open, Keane - Under the Iron Sea, Eskimo Joe - Black Fingernails etc, On his telly? Channel 2 news, Six Feet Under, the Footy. Reading: Lance Armstrong - Its Not About the Bike (very inspiring).

Ryan Temby (Rymond)– guitar and vocals
Selling digital cameras to western suburbs finest hardworking bluecollar migrants by day. He also enjoys a slice of quiche, re-runs of the Simpsons, and sauntering along Brunswick street sampling the fare. He always volunteers to drive, is a wonderful host, and currently has The Sleepy Jackson, BMRC, 78 Saab and Dandy Warhols spinning on the pod.

Paul Cengia (Sensy)– drums and vocals
If you know where he is, let us know.
